Sherwin Williams Commercial -- What's the Song?

Kwaku Alston

The colorfully animated, bee-centric recent commercial from Sherwin Williams features the song 'headsup' by John Nau and Andrew Feltenstein of Beacon Street Studios, a company that creates original music for film and television.

Andrew and John, the latter of whom sings lead on the track, only wrote enough music for the length of the commercial, so there is no full-length version of the song to be found or purchased.

However, the two also form the alternative-blues band Message of the Blues, whose 2008 album 'Da Illst' is available for purchase on iTunes.

The commercial features computer-animated bees assembling the most colorful beehive ever, entirely out of paint sample cards, as the sweetly plucked acoustic guitars of 'headsup' set the mood for Nau's romantic lyrics:

"Woke up this morning to a sweet old sound / Head in the clouds and my feet on the ground / Colors all around got me thinking of you / Now I know where I'm headed to."

In addition to their work on this commercial, Beacon Street Studios has provided music for dozens of other commercials, including Dell, American Express and the recent death-defying clip for Conan O'Brien's new show.
